New Announcements and Content... So whilst everyone is getting used to the new Rooster Teeth webpage and so on (I still preferred old over this but whatever I'll live with it), I've been keeping track of a couple of big things that have occurred this week.
On the Halo front, there is a brand spanking new Halo 4 trailer which is a "Making of" vidoc. It seems that:
1. John 117 personally is being focused on. Why I say this is because the Halo trilogy never really did this. Halo 1 through to Halo 3 were all about saving humanity and the discovery of the Halo arrays etc. But they never delved into John personally. Not that they ever needed to to start with but this is definately a refreshing turn of things to ...
Not that they ever needed to to start with but this is definately a refreshing turn of things to come.
2. The story is going to be more darker this time. Halo 3: ODST was a dark and gritty tale as well and was a good direction for a side story in the Halo universe so I'm all for this with Halo 4.
3. No reveal on enemies and so on yet.
4. Weapons are still widely unknown save of course for the Battle Rifle, the flagship weapon of Halo 2 which was then brought back for Halo 3, then was cut from ODST and replaced in Reach for the DMR. Now I have nothing against the DMR but the Battle Rifle is my preference between the two. If you watch the IGN rewind theater on the trailer, you can see them mention about a sniper rifle possibly in the trailer. Not too surprised there. I do believe I also saw the Assault Rifle in use briefly too, I will check on this. The Battle Rifle has gone through some huge changes in its design and reticule. It still fires the same three-round burst like before though.
5. The only two vehicles revealed thus far is the Warthog and Mongoose. Both are updated are for Halo 4.
6. Apparently the new multiplayer Spartan is called a "Spartan IV". Asides from changes in the armor, you can also see a Spartan using Sprint briefly. No confirmation though if this is just an armor ability or a fully integrated function this time around.
7. No word on assassinations.
Despite this being a huge blowout as well as confirmation on two multiplayer maps in the game, there is a huge amount we don't even know yet. Suffice it to say though, the game's graphics look stunning and what I've expected. Gameplay seems to be a lot like Halo 3 which is good, the one thing I missed about Halo when Reach came along was the pacing of combat. It was very different in Halo Reach. If this is back to how it was in Halo 3 then I'm all for it. What is also confirmed is customisation is returning. No surprise there, but I do hope the amount of detail into customization has improved as I did enjoy Reach's customization system much more than Halo 3's.
In other news, Assassin's Creed 3 has had a teaser trailer. Looks interesting enough and there is a lot revealed on it too.
1. It is set during the American Revolution.
2. The new Assassin is called Connor who is of British and Native American descent.
3. Hidden Blades I believe are still confirmed though they weren't shown.
4. You will also get to hunt animals out in the forests.
5. The Frontier Map is going to be much larger than the Rome map in Brotherhood.
6. Multiplayer is confirmed. Not only that but as it was hinted at a couple of years back for AC3, Co-op is introduced this time around.
7. Desmond has awoken like he did at the conclusion of Revelations but now he is using a new Animus, the Animus 3.0.
All in all, this is great but expected. It's no surprise that this was announced this year, the games and books have been pretty much leading up to this game. My only concern is that this game had better be the conclusion to the series. I love Assassin's Creed and the franchise has done considerably well but I do feel that this has to end with this game. If it has to be longer than the other games then so be it. If they have to rap everything up that wasn't done, so be it. But this game should definately conclude the series. We are finished with Ezio and Altair, now we all want to see Desmond become the badass he's been shaped and crafted into and bring down Abstergo once and for all.
Oh and for all of you Machinima fans out there, I've got a good series to recommend. I must say it has been a while since I've seen some good Action/Drama Halo machinima since the days of "The Codex" and "The Heretic". Finally though, I've encountered one.
The series I am talking about is one called "Rise of the Spartans". The voice acting is excellant, scenes are choreographed exceptionally well and the story absolutely will keep you guessing. To put into summary:
The story involves a squad of Spartans on the planet Reach which is currently in the midst of a full-on Covenant invasion. The leader of the team "Nightflash", knowing that Reach is going to get obliterated and everyone else there, decides to take his team to a teleporter which would then lead them to Arcadia. However things take an interesting turn and the whole team ends up on Halo. Separated and alone, the Spartans must work with what they have in order to fight back against the Covenant.
There are only five episodes currently but each one is up to and over an hour long each. It's also got some good comedy that blends in perfectly with the action and drama. The characters are all very three dimensional too as you'll come to see.
